Registers 0-9, A-F, and the Tax Rate are accessible only through the programming environment they’re the best place to store intermediate results because they don’t alter what the user has stored in memory.Īt present, PCalc does not clear these registers after a function is calculated. The X and Y registers and the memory locations are accessible any time you’re using PCalc. If you’re setting or changing a value, the constants don’t appear in the list. Here’s PCalc’s scrolling list of variables and constants you can choose from. In addition to these read/write variables, there are three read-only constants: Pi (π), a uniformly distributed random number between 0 and 1, 3 and a user-defined constant called Value. PCalc provides 29 such places: the X and Y registers, ten memory locations, sixteen registers, and a special register called Tax Rate used in some of the builtin financial functions. Numerical functions need places where they can store numbers and retrieve them from. These are all branching commands that test one value against another and skip a given number of steps if the test is true. The basic arithmetic commands (My Dear Aunt Sally) fall into this category, as does the command that sets a register.įinally, six of the commands have four parts: the command and three arguments. Nine of the commands have three parts: the command and two arguments. We’ll discuss how to set the argument in a bit. The trig, log, and exponential commands work this way, as does the Clear command. Seventeen of the commands have two parts, in which you have to choose both the command itself and a single argument. These are typically commands that set the calculation mode, like the Decimal Mode command we saw above or the Radians Mode command. Seven of the commands have only one part-the command itself with no arguments. Here they are, with descriptions, as they appear in the scrolling list you see as you construct your function. PCalc gives you 39 commands from which to build your function. You can change these by tapping them, which will take you to a command editing screen we’ll discuss in a bit, and add new commands by tapping the ⊞ key. PCalc starts you off with two commands: one that puts you in decimal mode (if you weren’t already there) and one that multiplies the current value by the universal constant. Tapping the new function takes you to a screen where you can rename and define it. Tapping that category takes you to a screen where you can rename it and then start defining new functions. Tapping the ⊞ key on this screen will create a new category. As you can see below, I’ve added three categories: Financial 2, Probability, and Weather. You’ll get a ⊞ key in the upper right corner, which will allow you to add new categories. Start by tapping the f(x) key to see the list of function categories and then tap the Edit key in the lower left corner. The creation of user-defined conversions follows almost exactly the same steps and has access to the same set of commands-once you’ve learned how to define functions, you’ll have no trouble defining conversions. In this post, I’m going to focus on creating user-defined functions. We just had to wait for James to figure out how he wanted to implement it. High-end calculators have been programmable since the 70s, so it was only natural to expect that functionality to come to PCalc eventually. This was not based on any insider knowledge. And the statistical section could use functions for the normal and inverse normal cumulative distribution. Things like present value, future value, and internal rate of return are natural for the financial section. What I’d really like to see, though, is an expansion of these functions. Initially, the additional functions were limited to whatever the developer, James Thomson, gave us. PCalc added an f(x) key in Version 2.6 as a way to access functions beyond those available on the keys. With Version 2.8 just released, you’re going to see its value explode with two new features: user-defined conversions and user-defined functions. If you followed my advice back in December, you bought PCalc for the ridiculously low price of 99¢ during its 20th anniversary sale 1 and have been using a first-class calculator for the past four months.

For the remaining 16 units, Lumberton Housing Authority Director Sheila Oxendine said there are roughly 900 people on the waiting list. Of 729 units in Lumberton's public housing program, 187 were put "offline" from the hurricanes, and another 526 are occupied. There's not enough rental stock to accommodate people who have been displaced by the hurricanes, placing a strain on affordable housing resources, according to Gunter. In Lumberton, 13.5% of the population lives in mobile homes, more than double the national average.įor many, mobile homes may be the only affordable option after the county was devastated by hurricanes. Time Out owns more than 1,200 home unit rental lots in Lumberton, where residents live in a total of 1,416 mobile home units, according to the 2017 American Community Survey figures from the U.S. "People may not be able to move their homes, so you have incredible leverage over the people who rent that land," he said. Gunter said many advocates are worried about the dynamic between mobile home owners who rent land in these parks and park owners, since older mobile homes often can't be moved. "Folks may not be able to do repairs themselves, and if someone comes at them with the right offer, it can be tempting to take," he said. "In the aftermath of a disaster, folks are flooded, those land values are depressed, and if you have capital, there's economic opportunity there," Gunter said, adding that lower-income communities often live in disaster-prone areas such as flood plains. North Carolina Housing Coalition Executive Director Samuel Gunter said it's not uncommon to see property investors "start snatching stuff up," after a disaster because they see a chance to make money. In an emailed statement, Time Out said rents were raised consistent with current market rates and that some of the additional revenue will go toward community improvement. After spending much of IGOR focusing on melodies and pretty chords, Tyler turns his attention back to bars on Call Me If You Get Lost, even allowing himself to rap for eight minutes straight on “Wilshire.” Eight minutes! It’s the thematic climax of the album, and it features some of the most personal storytelling we’ve ever heard from Tyler. These are Complex’s picks for the 40 best rap verses of the year. With that being said, it’s time to rank our favorites. Some of them were radio freestyles (shout out Vince Staples), some were album cuts (shout out Mach-Hommy), and one was leaked in a chaotic way before ultimately ending up on streaming services because everyone loved it so much (shout out André 3000).įor the purposes of this list, we decided to only include a maximum of one verse per artist, in an effort to include as many voices as we can. There were a lot of verses that stopped us in our tracks this year, and they came in all sizes and shapes. Some artists choose to tell a story, some go for a more abstract and poetic approach, and others try to squeeze in as many intricate metaphors and cadences as possible. Of course, there are lots of different approaches to making a great rap verse in 2021. We’ve already celebrated all the best songs and albums of the year, and now it’s time to answer the question: Who had the best rap verse of 2021? Forget the beats and the hooks-this time, we’re only focusing on the bars. It’s our favorite time of the year at Complex Music. It’s heartbreaking to speak of him in past tense but what he did when he was here is embedded and instilled in so many that are carrying on this marathon that he initiated. I was glad to be apart of the musical journey with him, but having seen what he was doing outside of that, and just for people, I knew that there were so many great things to come. MA: No, this is someone that was on a mission far beyond what it was for Hip Hop. Can you describe your creative process in working with him? Did you ever think it would be your last moment to cherish? LAS: The world experienced a great loss in Nipsey Hussle this year. I always thought I was never really a needy person, until there was someone that I needed. It was about being open and it was about forgiveness and it was about you not being able to listen to other people’s stories and go ‘well why can’t that happen to me?’ You have no idea what somebody else went through to get where they are, and it may not be your level of happiness, that may not be what you actually want. Sultry-songstressMarsha Ambrosius dotes on finding true love with husband Dez Billups and daughter, Nyla. This is what you want for your life and for your spirit and your happiness, so you really have to stay true to what that is to you, not what you think it takes to get there, because the journey I took to get it, I had no idea I had to go that route to be where I am today. LAS: What advice do you have for career driven women looking for love? It’s humbling and honorable to just be able to say that I’m Nyla’s mother, before anything. It’s an overwhelming emotional rollercoaster of all things, buts it’s a magical, peaceful space to be in. Like, I don’t remember not being a mother now. MA: Nyla’s about to be three in a couple days, and I feel like she’s been here my entire life. LAS: How has becoming a mother changed you? Ultimately, it wasn’t even about the music, it wasn’t about career, this is what I wanted as a human being. So, I think with the Nyla album is when I finally had that. The prior music that I’ve created was all aspiration, things that I put into the Universe to come to me. The Nyla album is the first time I’ve created in a space in love like that. During the course of almost two decades, having concentrated on my career, I’ve finally found love of my own and the family of my own. Marsha Ambrosius: I was in an extremely pivotal place as far as where I was as an artist and a woman. Los Angeles Sentinel: Tell us about the 2018 release of your latest album, Nyla and why this album is so different from any of your other projects. In an exclusive interview, the Sentinel caught up with the Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter to get her thoughts on being in love, working with the late, great Nipsey Hussle and the ebbs and flows of the music industry. Recently, the songstress, who’s penned hits for Alicia Keys, Jamie Foxx, and Michael Jackson, made a pit stop in Los Angeles to head up the Baldwin Hills’ Crenshaw Plaza’s Annual Winter Wonderland extravaganza, performing holiday classics and a slew of her own hits to bring some holiday cheer. Today, Ambrosius is letting people in on a brand new side of her as she jets sets in marriage and motherhood. We’ve all known sultry-soul artist, Marsha Ambrosius as the distinctly, eclectic voice captivating hearts around the globe with solo-hits like “Far Away” and “Say Yes” from her long standing career with the R&B group, Floetry. Though most of the ingredients remain the same, there are a few subtle differences from the original “Celebrating Regional Cuisine” (Nov 5th to Dec 31st) event hosted by Sujana of Sujana’s World at The weekly “Bake-Off” event hosted by Champa of Versatile Vegetarian Kitchen at Packing off this Eggless Pumpkin Pie as my entry to: Here’s to my last post of 2010 and wish you a fulfilling, joyous and tasteful New Year 2011! Jack-o-lantern pumpkins are supposedly raised more for durability than for their taste. Pumpkin pie calls for a much smaller ‘sugar’ pumpkin, the size of your spread palms held together. What I really meant is – Don’t take it up when you have too many things going on. P in Pie is definitely not for procrastination, it is a delicate product of all your attention.Ī small note before you rush to the store: Don’t go hunting for those huge jack-o-lantern pumpkins. To sum it up, through this pie-(ad)venture, I came a long way from my initial prejudice – from pie can be intimidating for, pie is what only seasoned bakers bake to anyone can bake a pie! Boy, was it my ‘Martha moment’ at its first sight out of the oven or even as I jumped with joy after my first bite! In hindsight, I might say, baking Pumpkin pie from scratch is quite laborious costing almost half a day. What makes it worth the while is, in spite of the endless list of my ‘shouldn’t haves’, the pie turned out silken solid, just the way it was meant to be. Like I went through two days of intense labour devoid of pain killers ‘just’ to have a natural birth (not the best analogy, I know) – but that’s just me. Besides, I have a thing or two for doing stuff from scratch. While it may not hold true always, to the extent possible, I like to avoid canned goods and pre-processed items. Or…You know, personally, when it comes to cooking and food, I don’t quite take offense if someone calls me a little conservative (read – a lot). Just when I was fiddling with deliberation to call it quits, Anushruti’s Eggless Pumpkin Pie recipe on clicked like a flashbulb for, she baked it from scratch – just what I wanted! And, was I super glad to have stumbled upon such a fine use for a can of condensed milk waiting to be opened? Sometimes, doesn’t it feel like even a sea of recipes at your fingertips is just not enough? For, you are in search of ‘the’ one elusive recipe that perfectly fits the bill and your idiosyncrasies, at that moment or for another day. Most recipes had egg in them, many started with a store-bought pie crust and/or canned pumpkin purée while a whole bunch of others employed egg substitutes that were absent in my pantry. Contrary to that, I hit upon a serious number of consecutive s on my browsing excursion of a million pumpkin pie recipes (hyperbolical of course!). Much later on this particularly bright sunny day, almost a month after the feast, I felt a sense of conviction to take up this audacious task. And for quite the same freakish reason, as a Thanksgiving hostess, I couldn’t dare think of it, for it was my maiden attempt with a pie – any sort of, for that matter. Pumpkin Pie as I have come to learn, is a near-sacred dish on the table, especially on Thanksgiving. Well, my earnest efforts to get it out published before I left didn’t quite suffice. “Better late than never” sounds like a tiny consolation and so, it is finally time to give it its due as this post languished in the drafts folder while I happily vacationed in South Padre Island this Christmas. My baking experiments thus far have been ‘belated’ so to speak – Peach Cobbler long after summer, Roasted butternut squash way past fall and this Pumpkin pie – month after Thanksgiving or rather week after Christmas! And with its healthy new V6, well-sorted chassis and comfortable cabin, the Edge will fit right into that lifestyle when it goes on sale this month.īased on a lengthened, widened version of the Mazda 6 platform, the 2007 Ford Edge shares most of its mechanicals with the Mazda CX-9 seven-seater, including its double-overhead-cam V6 and fully independent front strut, rear multilink suspension design. In other words, city slickers who TiVo Animal Planet. "Our core target customer is active and enjoys the energy of the city and the opportunity of the outdoors," says Jeri Ward, Ford Edge marketing manager. But now there are kinder, gentler crossovers like the 2007 Ford Edge, a five-passenger sport-utility built for buyers who'd never back over a roll of Charmin, much less commit ursicide. Rugged, fearless and a smidge bloodthirsty, the mythical late '90s SUV owner spent as much time hunting bear as he did loading up 64-packs of toilet paper. We hope Ford will see fit to address this issue soon. As likable a vehicle as the Ford Edge is, it's hard for us to recommend a mainstream family vehicle with questionable brakes. While the Edge can't match the hard-core athleticism or interior style of the Mazdas, it offers a solid all-around package, combining equal parts comfort, power and space in one attractive body. That leaves the Mazda CX-7/CX-9, Mitsubishi Endeavor and Nissan Murano as its closest competition. Its cabin furnishings aren't as upscale as those of peers like the Honda Pilot, Hyundai Santa Fe and Toyota Highlander, but the Ford offers much better driving dynamics. Pedal feel is solid, but stopping distances are much longer than they should be in panic situations.Īside from that, the 2007 Ford Edge offers a solid package for the would-be midsize-SUV buyer who doesn't need a third-row seat. Unfortunately, the Edge has one major weakness: its brakes. As with most of its peers, off-roading is not really within its grasp, but equipped with AWD, it should make a fine winter-weather vehicle. Out on the road, the Ford Edge is one of the quicker SUVs in its class and manages to provide both sporty handling and a smooth, quiet ride. The overall interior design is fairly bland, but families will find it functional day-to-day, and a full set of side airbags keeps everyone safe. Passenger room is generous in both the front and rear seats, and features like a telescoping steering wheel and reclining rear seats ensure long-haul comfort. Additionally, with only two rows of seating, the Ford rides on a slightly shorter wheelbase and is 14 inches shorter nose to tail. However, the Edge has a different six-speed automatic transmission than the Mazda, along with a simpler, viscous-coupling all-wheel-drive system. But we think it will be different for the 2007 Ford Edge, which seats only five passengers but offers a powerful V6 and a striking exterior design that could never be called uncool.įord's new midsize SUV shares most of its mechanicals with the Mazda CX-9, including its new double-overhead cam 3.5-liter V6 rated for an impressive 265 horsepower. Ford's first midsize crossover, the Freestyle, didn't go over too well with this audience, however, as its weak V6 engine and conservative styling sent its coolness meter plunging to minivan levels. The midsize crossover SUV segment is fast becoming as important as the midsize sedan segment, as more and more families are discovering the useful compromise of utility and efficiency these vehicles provide.
